Uniform Day At St. Thomas Sparks Excitement For New Season
New dugouts are being built on the baseball field at St. Thomas, and as the team prepares to defend their district championship from a year ago, excitement was high around the Raiders program Thursday.
Every year, something special happens at baseball programs all across the county, players receive their uniforms, some for the very first time. There is not much better feeling than walking up to a coach and grabbing that jersey.
Yesterday was that day at St. Thomas. Over a dozen players hit in the batting cages and then worked their way to the room where they would receive what will become known as part of their history.
Many players have worn the threads that were handed out at St. Thomas, and some of those players are now wearing professional uniforms. To a man, the pro players will have story after story of playing at the high school level.
The excitement in Fort Lauderdale was only the beginning of what players all across the country will experience in the next two weeks. In some cases, uniforms will be handed out after an inter-squad game this Saturday. In others, uniform day will not be until the night before the first pre-season game.
With less than two weeks left until the first pitch of the new season, the obvious was on display at St. Thomas Thursday. The season is just around the corner, and excitement is in the air.
