Eight Broward Teams Set To Kick Off Preseason Today

The 2011 season has finally arrived. After months of practice and workouts, the new season will get under way this afternoon and evening when eight Broward teams take the field for preseason games.

The games will not mean much in terms of the standings, but for players and coaches, the real umpires, uniforms, and competition will be a welcomed change from the last few weeks of preparation.

Several teams that won district championships will be in action tonight. Coral Springs, the defending 10-6A champs, will play host to Pompano Beach at 6:30. South Broward won the 11-6A title last year, and they will face Taravella at a preseason tournament at Deerfield Beach. Game time for the Bulldogs and Trojans is set for 7.

Flanagan not only won the 12-6A title last year, they also won the state championship. With some key players graduating from last years team, Falcons fans will get a glimpse of what this season will hold this evening when Flanagan hosts Park Vista at 6:30.

Deerfield Beach and Plantation are two teams that are hoping to make a move towards the top of their districts this season, and the Bucks and Colonels will face each other today at 4. North Broward Prep is the other Broward team playing today when they host Dade Christian.

This week, there will be a total of forty-one preseason games played in Broward. Next Monday, the season will officially start with several tournaments scheduled. Those teams not playing in tournaments next week will be playing individual games to kick off their regular season.
