White’s 200th Win, Davis’ No Hitter, Highlight Thursday’s Action
Thursday turned out to be a great day for baseball around Broward and the games were highlighted by a couple of impressive feats. Cypress Bay’s Mike White won his 200th game as a head coach in the county, and Douglas’ Matt Davis threw a no-hitter.
Douglas went on the road to face district opponent Coconut Creek, and Davis made sure that the Cougars had no ideas about pulling an upset. The Eagles defeated the Cougars 13-0 in a five inning mercy rule final. Davis pitched a complete game, striking out seven. Davis would have had himself a perfect game if not for a walk.
Later in the evening, Coach White picked up his 200th victory in Broward when his Cypress Bay team defeated Cooper City 11-2. Zach Fraley picked up the win for the Lightning, and Ji Woo went 3-for-3, with a double and an RBI. Cypress Bay improved to 3-1 with the win.
Taravella picked up their first win of the season in a district match up with Monarch. The Trojans received a complete game from Matt Robertson en route to the 6-2 win. Andrew Wallach was 2-for-3 for the Trojans, and Jordan Gleisher went deep in the game.
Plantation won a wild affair with crosstown rival South Plantation, 10-7. The Colonels were led by Kody Jones who went 3-for-4, with two runs and a home run. Anthony Birchall went 2-for-4 with three RBIs for Plantation, and Gus Cinquino picked up the win for the Colonels.
In late action, American Heritage got back on the winning track, beating Gulliver Prep 11-5 in Miami. Heritage’s Derrick Fritz went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Esteban Puerta added two hits and two RBIs, and Mike Marlin went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs, and an RBI for the Patriots, who improved their record to 2-2.
