Broward Teams Return Battered And Bruised After Rough Spring Break Week
Many Broward teams traveled to other areas of Florida or out of state last week to put on display the immense talent in Broward County. Unfortunately, outside of Flanagan, American Heritage, CS Charter, Nova, Pine Crest, Fort Lauderdale, and Sagemont, the tournaments did nothing but bruise the egos of Broward squads.
Five Broward teams went across to the West Coast to play in the Sarasota Spring Break tournament. Of the five teams, none came home with a winning record in the tournament. Calvary Christian had the best results, finishing 2-2, but lost both of their games against non-Broward teams. Coral Springs, Pembroke Pines Charter, and Cypress Bay all went 1-3 in the tournament, and Coral Glades went 0-4.
The Jaguars were not the only team to post a goose-egg in the win column over spring break. In the Selective Recruiting Invitational, West Broward and Coral Springs Christian suffered the same fate. North Broward Prep went 2-2 in the tournament, with both loses coming at the hands of Monsignor Pace. Archbishop finished a respectable 3-1, and Heritage won all four games they played en route to taking home the title.
The Nova tournament provided a place for local teams that stayed home to play their spring break ball. The Titans won the tournament after a couple of years of watching other teams celebrate on their field to end spring break. Nova’s district rival, St. Thomas, had plans on meeting the Titans in the championship game, but those hopes were dashed when the Raiders lost their opener to Bartow. St. Thomas finished 1-2, with a win over Hollywood Hills and losses to Bartow and Goleman.
In the Monarch Spring Break event, Pine Crest emerged as the champions, beating Fort Lauderdale for the title. Monarch defeated Plantation in the third place game of the tournament.
Overall, Broward teams went 36-42 against teams from outside the county. That may not bode well for the future, as many of the teams that were beating Broward teams last week will have to be dealt with during the playoffs.
The second half of the season begins on Monday, and it is a time to wipe the slate clean and start playing for positioning in district tournaments. The teams that had a rough spring break, can put their performance in the rear-view mirror with a few district wins in the coming weeks. For teams that played well, this week provides an opportunity to continue their winning streaks heading towards the final month of the season.
How about Flanagan? They went 4-0 winning the Tournament of Champions in Jacksonville beating Georgia 4A, 3A and 1A State Champions from a year ago and beating Timber Creek(State Semifinalist 6A).
Or Douglas? Aren’t they still undefeated?
Where is the coverage. McArthur went 3-1 and took third in the sunshine classic. Beat ferguson and coral reef and out of state charlotte christian. Lost to miami springs in in opener who went to final and lost close one to hiahleah in championship
You guys are good but please before you guys want recognition start winning; 3-1 for the week and then lose to a team that are below .500 dont say much, you have players that are not happy for the work ethics your team does worry about that first then worry about recognigtion. You need to develop your JV that what makes a baseball program better, getting beat 30-1 is not helping the program, you need to work with JV and stop complaning about recognition it seem you haven’t won in a long time.
