CS Charter And American Heritage Reach Finals Of Spring Break Tourneys
One week ago today, Coral Springs Charter lost by a ten-run mercy rule to district rival American Heritage. At the time, it appeared the two programs were going in different directions. It turns out that the Panthers and Patriots would experience a similar fate during Spring Break.
On Thursday, CS Charter advanced to the championship game of the Sunshine Classic in Orlando by defeating Southwest Miami 10-8 in thrilling come from behind fashion. As has been the case for much of the season, the Panthers were led by their offense. Christian Khawly hit a three-run homer, and Joe McChrystal went 2-for-4 with two doubles.
It was Trevor Kane, however, that provided the big hit on this evening, a two-run single that drove in the winning runs in the sixth. Miami threatened in the seventh, but Charter held on for their third victory of the tournament. They will now face Orangewood Christian in the final tonight at 7 PM.
As for Heritage, the Patriots had to wait until late Wednesday night to find out their fate. Heritage took care of business in the day with a 3-0 win over Doral, and then waited to see if they would win tiebreakers over two other undefeated teams in the Selective Recruiting Invitational. When the smoke cleared, Heritage learned they would be playing in the title game Saturday afternoon at 1 PM against Jupiter at the University of Miami.
