Plantation Shakes Up District 11-6A With 10-2 Win Over McArthur
Plantation got off to a hot start Tuesday night against McArthur and they never looked back. They scored in five out of six innings and played solid defense behind starting pitcher Mark Ramcharitar, defeating the top team in the District 10-2A.
Ramcharitar pitched a complete game for the win, going seven innings while striking out nine and walking none. He scattered six hits allowing just two runs.
“Ramy was our number one all last year and is one of the best pitchers in Broward County,” said Plantation Head Coach Albert Destrade, “he mixes it up well, locates and he’s a competitor.”
Ramcharitar shut down McArthur 1-2-3 in the top half of the first, and the Colonels pitcher knew he had his good stuff.
“I felt great, first time this season I felt I had control of all of my pitches, worked quick and efficiently,” said Ramcharitar about his performance.
Plantation scored three in the bottom of the first on one hit. Brian Gentry led the inning off with a walk and later scored on a RBI single from Ian Pubillones. Kody Jones walked and scored on a passed ball to make it 2-0 and Pubillones scored on an RBI ground out by Anthony Birchall.
McArthur answered with a run in the second on a lead-off home run by Javier Aguilar to left field.
Plantation scored two more in the second on a two-RBI single by Jones.
The Mustangs added their second and final run in the third on a hit and an error. The inning ended on a line drive double play to the Plantation shortstop Matt Costa.
After going scoreless in the third, Plantation scored one in the fourth on two hits and an error. Birchall led the fifth inning off with a home run to left field for his second RBI of the game. In the sixth, Plantation added a little more cushion with three runs on three hits and two McArthur errors.
Gentry finished the game going 1-for-1 with three walks, three runs scored and a stolen base. Birchall finished 2-3 with a double to go along with his home run and a walk. Felipe Garcia also went 2-3 with a couple of singles.
“We really like our lineup and our guys went out there and really put together quality at-bats, stayed back knowing they would see a lot of off speed,” said Destrade about his offense.
On the mound to start the game for McArthur was Dylan Segula who worked two plus innings, picking up the loss. Kevin Velez came in from first base to throw the last four innings for the Mustangs. Aguilar at the plate went 2-3 with a double to go along with a home run.
“It was a district game, important game and coming off the loss to Everglades we wanted to take it out on McArthur,” said Birchall about the win. “We came out and did our job.”
