White Hits Three Homers In Suns Win Over Sharks
Michael White had himself a day Tuesday that many high school baseball players only dream of. White hit three home runs and was the winning pitcher in University’s win over Sheridan Hills.
Despite their 4-1 record coming into Tuesday’s game, University has struggled at times this season offensively. On this day, however, the Suns’ bats woke up in a big way. In the end they had seven total home runs. White was the star of the game, and he credited the opposite field batting practice the team had the day before, for his success on the day.
“If you pulled anything you were out of batting practice,” said White. “Let the ball travel, explode through the zone, that’s what we worked on, and today it paid off.”
The winning University pitcher was joined by Michael Crespo, Jordan Budwig, J.J. Cormier, and Manny Silveira in the home run parade for the Suns. University exhibited the youthful fun that can come with the game on Crespo’s home run. Instead of meeting the senior at the plate after his homer, the team gave him the silent treatment and stayed on the bench.
The overall mood was jovial for the Suns as they improved to 5-1 on the season. Coach Rich Hofman was pleased that his team finally was able to break out.
“For the hitters it was a fun day,” said Hofman. “It’s kind of fun for the kids. Once in a while you need to have a game where you can relax a little bit, and today was one of those days.”
