Mark Ramcharitar Lifts Plantation Over South Broward
Mark Ramcharitar had the go ahead two two-run single with two outs in the fifth inning to give Plantation the lead that he would eventually nail down for the save. Plantation had trailed by as many as three runs as they fought their way to a 6-4 win.
“This was a great opportunity for us as a team today, we’ve been battered by injuries all season and today we were able to put all nine starters on the field together for the first time and defeat the defending district champions, they are a solid ballclub” said Plantation Head Coach Albert Destrade.
The Colonels got on the board in the top half of the first after a leadoff double from Brian Gentry and a sacrifice fly from Kody Jones.
The lead would not last for very long as South Broward would score three in the bottom of the second on just one hit. Starting pitcher Ken Rasor helped himself out with a two-run single and Zach Roberts squeezed home a run to make it 3-1.
They would add one more in the third to push the lead to 4-1. Dylan Weichhan walked to lead off the inning and would eventually score on a wild pitch.
Plantation started their comeback with a run in the fourth. Anthony Birchall had a one-out double and would score on an error.
Daniel Vasquez started the rally for Plantation in the fifth with a leadoff double. Gentry followed with a walk and a sacrifice bunt put runners at 2nd and 3rd. An intentional walk to Jones and a walk to Ian Pubillones made it 4-3. After a pop out to the catcher, Ramcharitar came through with the clutch single to give Plantation the lead.
“The adrenaline was pumping, I had the confidence to go out and get the job done,” said Ramcharitar about his performance.
“He’s been big for us this year in a lot of clutch spots,” said Destrade of Ramcharitar’s single in the fifth, “He came up big in a huge spot today.”
He would then take the mound in the bottom half of the fifth and would finish the game allowing just one hit to end South Broward’s chance to defend their district title.
“There was a lot riding on this game, it has been a tough season but we had great intensity today,” said Ramcharitar of the win, “It feels good to defeat the defending champions after they beat us badly twice in the regular season.”
“Birchall did great today, gave us three good innings and Ram came in and shut the door for us” said Destrade of his teams pitching performance.
Plantation added an insurance run in the 6th after Vasquez started a two-out rally with his third hit of the game. Jones was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score the sixth run.
Gus Cinquino earned the win working a scoreless fourth inning relieving Birchall who had started and went three for Plantation. Rasor received the loss working 5 2/3’s innings.
