Chaminade-Madonna Holds Off Pompano Beach 4-2 In Extra Innings
In the first game of the Plantation bracket, Chaminade scored 4 runs in the top half of the 8th inning and held off a late Pompano rally for a final score of 4-2.
Pitching was the theme of the night for both sides as the game went scoreless throught 7 innings. For Chaminade, starting pitcher Chris Flores worked 6 scoreless innings striking out 6 for the no decision. He allowed just 3 hits and struck out 4 consecutive batters between the 2nd and 3rd innings.
Both teams squandered opportunities to score early on in the game. After a leadoff double in the top of the second for Chaminade, the next to batters struck out bedore Nader was picked off.
For Pompano, Nick Delgado led off the bottom of the 1st with a hit by pitch, advanced to second and stole 3rd before being stranded at third.
The bats finally woke up in the 8th innings as Chaminade jumped on the board first with 4 runs on 5 hits. Chris Comellos led off with a single and would eventually come around to score. Keith Oren, Dan Vitello, and Mitch Moorman had 3 consecutive sinlges while Nader broke the game open with a 2-out 2 RBI double making it 4-0.
Pompano would not fold as they rallied to score 2 in the bottom half of the inning. Kenny Harrell reached on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly from Matt Fengler. J J Rodriguez singled and would score on a RBI double from Allen Benzenhafer.
Dustin Hanley earned the win working the final 2 innings for Chaminade. D J Fenstermaker started and worked 4 innings for Pompano, striking out 5 and allowing 3 hits. Bobby Adkins takes the loss for Pompano going 4 innings and striking out 7.
