Pompano Uses Big Inning To Down Plantation 8-0
Pompano Beach scored six times on four hits in the sixth to break open an 8-0 win over Plantation in the final game of Group Two of the HSBN/Perfect Recruits Fall Classic.
Both starters cruised through the first five innings without much stress. Pompano’s best chance to score before its big sixth in came in the first when Nick Delgado reached on an error to lead off the game. He stole second and advanced to third on the overthrow before getting thrown out at home on the same play.
Plantation’s best opportunity to score came in the second when it loaded the bases with no outs. Jhulian Spaulding led off with a single, followed by a walk to Mark Ramcharitar and a single by Daniel Vasquez. A strikeout and a double play got Pompano out of the jam.
Pompano’s bats eventually woke up in the sixth as 10 players came to the plate. Matt Fengler led of with a double and scored on a single from pinch-hitter David Corrado. Shaw Pinnell singled to bring in starting pitcher Bobby Adkins, who walked. Harrell walked with the bases loaded to bring in Pinnell. The biggest hit of the inning came from Allen Benzenhafer, who doubled to clear the bases and make it 6-0.
The Golden Tornadoes added two more in the seventh. Rory Mcnamara had a pinch-hit single to drive in Thomas Bannecker, who walked to lead off the inning. Pinnell hit a sacrifice fly for his second RBI of the game.
Adkins pitched the whole game for Pompano, keeping the Plantation offense in check throughout. He struck out six and allowed just three hits with one walk.
For Plantation, Gus Cinquino pitched five and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs, all in the sixth. He struck out five along the way before being relieved by RJ Henle, who pitched the final inning and a third.
Chaminade-Madonna advances to the next round from the Group 2 bracket, going 2-1 by beating Cardinal Gibbons and Pompano before losing to Plantation. Gibbons also advances as one of two wild-card teams.
