Daily Recap for Broward Games on Monday, February 11th
It was an exciting day of baseball around Broward County as teams took the field for the first time in games that count in the standings. Here’s a wrap-up of some of Monday’s highlights…
Coral Springs 15, Coconut Creek 0 – The Colts opened their season with a resounding victory in the first game of the Colts First Pitch Classic. Jordan Barrett threw four perfect innings for Coral Springs, striking out all 12 batters he faced. Vinny Cerullo led the offense, going 4-for-4, with three triples and three RBIs.
Coral Springs Christian 8, LaSalle 3 – The Crusaders jumped on the Royal Lions early, scoring four runs in the third inning, then cruised to victory. Devin Meyer went four innings, allowing no earned runs while striking out eight. Benito Santiago paced the offense with a 3-for-4 performance. Santiago added two runs and two RBIs. Eric Hepple and James Buckley each went 2-for-4 with a run. Buckley also drove in one of the Crusaders’ runs.
South Broward 5, Hollywood Hills 1 – Makana Gilliland was the star offensively for the Bulldogs in the season opener, going 1-for-2 with a three-run homer. South Broward will enter a cross-county match-up next, hosting Royal Palm Beach on Wednesday.
Calvary Christian 4, Flanagan 3 – The Eagles rallied in the middle innings of a see-saw affair, scoring two runs in the fifth, and then holding on to defeat tournament host Flanagan. Andrew Liberty threw four innings for the Eagles, picking up the win. Chris Meyer closed the door for the save. Andrew Gottfried went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Calvary, while Winn Allen drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
