South Broward continued its hot start, Calvary got back to .500 and Stranahan won their first game of the season. Here are the recaps…
Calvary Christian 1, Pope John Paul 0 – After two losses and a tie, Andrew Gottfried made sure the Eagles would break out of their mini-slump Thursday. Gottfried had nine strikeouts in the shutout. Nick Kumar provided the offense, going 3-for-3, with a home run. Luke Porier added two hits for Calvary, which ran their record to 2-2-1.
South Broward 13, Plantation 3 – The Bulldogs ran their record to 4-0 with their second district win of the week. Matt Cohick was 3-for-4, with three RBIs and three runs scored. Colin Tindall also had three hits for South Broward, and added two runs and an RBI. Up next for South Broward will be the only other undefeated team in the district, Nova. That game is set for Tuesday night at South Broward.
Stranahan 13, Hallandale 0 – The Mighty Dragons picked up their first win of the season in grand fashion Thursday. Chris Ford did the mound-work for Stranahan, going the distance while giving up only one hit. Jose Lopez was 3-for-4 for the Dragons. Stranahan will look to build off this win when they face Ely this afternoon.
