Tuesday’s action across Broward included an upset by McArthur over district rival St. Thomas and an eight-inning contest between Western and Cypress Bay. Here’s a look at those games and some others…
McArthur 7, St. Thomas 4 – Oliver Vallejo hit a grand slam and drove in five runs to power the Mustangs as they topped their district nemesis Raiders.
Cypress Bay 7, Western 6 (8 innings) – Tyler Fichter hit a home run in the top seventh to tie the game and send it into extra innings, where Juan De La Espriella delivered a two-run single with one out for win in the eighth in a District 8A-12 game.
Calvary Christian 7, Westminster Academy 7 – Andrew Liberty went 2-for-2 with a run and RBI, and Andrew Gottfried pitched 4.1 innings, striking out five, as the Eagles rallied for three runs in the final two innings to tie it. Daniel Donofrio, who pitched four innings, went 3-for-4 with a run and RBI. Weston Clemente went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. The game was called for darkness.
Coral Glades 8, South Plantation 3 – Nick Diaz went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run to pace the Jaguars in the District 8A-11 win. Christian Dominguez struck out seven in three innings, allowing one hit and no runs while walking none.
Pompano Beach 12, Fort Lauderdale 3 – Vince Costello led the Golden Tornadoes at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two RBIs, and Shaw Pinnell added three hits, including a double and home run, driving in two.
Taravella 2, Pembroke Pines Charter 1 – Matt Majewski allowed one earned run in five innings pitched for the Trojans.
South Broward 5, Cooper City 2 – The Bulldogs, who turned three double plays in the first four innings, are off to a 3-0 start after the pitching of Colin Tindall and Ken Rasor and the bat of John Maginnis, who went 2-for-4 with an RBI and run.
Monarch 10, Coconut Creek 0 – Nick Alonso went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Troy Brennan went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and four stolen bases to pace the Knights in the District 7A-15 contest.
West Broward 9, Everglades 0 – Danny Pardo went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two stolen bases to pace the Bobcats in the District 8A-12 matchup. Christian Khawly went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and two stolen bases. Chayce Hay-Eldon also homered. Mark Mendez pitched five strong innings, striking out six while allowing two hits.
Coral Springs 14, Piper 2 – Ryan Denardo went 2-for-2 with four RBIs, and Justin Mixon went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI as the Colts took the District 8A-11 win, giving them momentum going into tonight’s district showdown with archrival Douglas. The Eagles, too, have momemtum after beating Deerfield 15-0.
Highlands Christian 15, Boca Christian 4 – Kirvin Moesquit hit a homer and drove in five runs, and Deion Rosalia went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs for the Knights.
