Daily Recaps For Broward County Games on Friday, March 8th
Seven innings was not enough for Cooper City and South Broward on Friday night…
Cooper City 4, South Broward 3 (8 innings) – Johnny Haney hit the winner in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Cowboys (4-3, 3-2) walked off with the District 7A-16 victory. Nick D’Andrea pitched three shutout innings for the win and Evan Santiago scored twice. Matt Cohick was 2-for-2 and also walked twice for the Bulldogs (6-2, 4-1), who are 1-4 the past three seasons against Cooper City.
Flanagan 6, West Broward 0 – Gentry Fortuno pitched a two-hit, compete-game shutout to lead the Falcons (7-2) to 4-0 in District 8A-12. Andre Visbal was 3-for-3 with a home run, David Sarmiento went 3-for-4 and AJ Munoz had three RBIs. The Bobcats (5-2, 3-2) were last shut out almost exactly one year ago, on March 9, 2012, also by the Falcons.
St. Thomas Aquinas 9, McArthur 4 – Frank Rubio allowed two hits and no earned runs and had 12 strikeouts to lead the Raiders (6-3, 3-1) in the District 7A-16 game. Peter Nicoletto was 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI and Rafael Amanau was also 2-for-3. The Mustangs (3-5, 2-4) split the season series, after winning at St. Thomas earlier this season.
Monarch 12, Northeast 2 – Nick Ritomato was 3-for-5 with two doubles and Gino Poliandro went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and two runs for the Knights (5-3, 4-1). Monarch moves into a tie for first place in District 7A-15 with the Hurricanes (5-2, 4-1) while avenging a loss on Thursday at Northeast.
Zion Lutheran 5, American Prep 2 – Johnny Mendez was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Nick Vasquez was 1-for-1 with two RBIs and a pair of walks to lead the Lions (6-3). Robert Barradas earned the victory on the mound.
