Douglas got a good start to its Selective Recruiting Invitational campaign by knocking off the last unbeaten team in Miami-Dade and one of only two unbeatens in the tri-county area…
Douglas 7, Mater Academy 5 – Josh Koebel hit a grand slam to power the Eagles (11-2) to the win over the previously undefeated Lions (12-1) in the Selective Recruiting Invitational. With the win, Jupiter (12-0) remains the lone undefeated team in the tri-county South Florida region.
Deerfield Beach 16, Coconut Creek 0 – Austin Soeder went 3-for-3 with two doubles, three RBIs and three runs, and Trent Youston went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs for the Bucks (3-10) in the South Broward Invitational. It’s Deerfield’s first win since Feb. 22 when the Bucks beat Northeast 9-5.
Coral Springs Charter 11, McArthur 4 – Luis Guillome had three hits and drove in two runs, and John Gacitua had three hits as well to power the Panthers (10-6) to their fourth win in a row and second in the Titan Spring Classic.
Nova 7, Hollywood Hills 0 – Brandon McCalla went 2-for-3 with a double, home run and three RBIs, and Nick Martinez went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a home run to help Nova reach the championship of its tournament, the Titan Spring Classic, where it will face Coral Springs Charter on Wednesday.
Coral Springs Christian 7, New Smyrna Beach 3 – Touki Toussaint went 3-for-4 with two home runs, including a grand slam, six RBIs, a stolen base and two runs to power the Crusaders (13-3) in the Orlando Spring Classic. Benito Santiago also had three hits and stole three bags. Winning pitcher Devin Meyer threw six innings, striking out eight and allowing one earned run.
Pompano Beach 4, Miami Sunset 3 – Tyler Keller went the distance, striking out four and allowing two earned runs for the Golden Tornadoes (6-5) in their Selective Recruiting Invitational opener. Matt Fengler went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs.
South Broward 11, Hialeah Miami Lakes 1 – John Maginnis went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run, and Johanky Berrido went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs for the Bulldogs (10-4) in their own tournament, the South Broward Invitational. Mike Cohick was the winning pitcher.
Pine Crest 8, Manatee 5 – Adam Saks pitched four innings, doubled and drove in two runs, and Steven Goldberg went 2-for-4 with two walks and two runs to lead the Panthers (9-5) in the Sarasota Classic. Zack Kone went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs, and Chris Koppenhaver drove in two runs.
University School 12, Lane Tech 0 – Mike White went 4-for-4 with four runs, and Julian Cabrera went 2-for-3 with two runs for the Suns (9-3) in the Sunshine Classic. University won its fifth in a row.
Boca Raton 8, Coral Glades 5 – Zach Thompson went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Alex Lara went 2-for-4 for the Jaguars (7-3) in the Sarasota Classic. Glades is 2-3 in its past five games after a 5-0 start.
Western 5, Coral Reef 3 – Anthony Difabio went 1-for-1 with an RBI, and Alex Arteza pitched six innings, allowing one earned run for the Wildcats (6-7) in their Selective Recruiting Invitational opener.
Sheridan Hills 11, Archbishop Curley 9 – Jesus Hernandez went 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, and Thomas Davis went 3-for-4 with two triples, two RBIs and three runs.
