The Suns keep knocking off district opponents…
University School 3, North Broward Prep 0 – Evan McKendry went 1-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Suns (8-3), who are on a four-game winning streak as they improved to 8-1 in 4A-13.
Calvary Christian 14, Highlands Christian 1 – Andrew Liberty went 3-for-5 with three runs, two home runs, five RBIs and two doubles to power the Crusaders (7-4-1) to the 3A-14 win. Keith Oren went 1-for-4 with a grand slam and five RBIs. Calvary improved to 4-1-1 in the district.
Westminster Academy 12, Sagemont 1 – Weston Clemente pitched a complete-game one-hitter as the Lions (6-8-1) rebounded from a tough loss Tuesday for their first district win. Daniel Donofrio went 2-for-3 with a grand slam and four RBIs, and Thomas Messer went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Sam Etter and Zack Gonzalez each had two hits and drove in two runs.
Cypress Bay 6, West Broward 1 – Ben Fits went 2-for-3 with a double and RBI, and Joey Rodriguez also went 2-for-3 to help the Lightning improve to 4-3 in 8A-12. Danny Cepeda went 2-for-4 with a double and had outstanding defense as he factored in two double plays in key situations.
Everglades 6, Miramar 5 (8 innings) – Dylan O’Connell pitched two innings, allowing no runs while striking out three, and Adam Murray allowed two hits and a run while striking out 10 for the Gators (7-3), who are tied for second in the district at 4-3. Andrew Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a double, and Alan Ruiz went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Flanagan 15, Western 3 – Ryan Dodge hit a grand slam as one of his three hits and drove in six runs to power the Falcons (10-2), who are in first place in 8A-12 at 7-0. Andres Rios went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, and Andres Visbal went 2-for-3 with a home run and three runs.
Hollywood Hills 3, McArthur 2 – Mike Bosco went 2-for-2 with a run and stolen base, and Jesus Patricio went 2-for-3 to pace the Mustangs (4-8), who are 1-5 in their past five games.
Coral Springs 6, Taravella 5 – Vinny Cerullo went 3-for-4 with an RBI and double, and Mike Montalvo went 1-for-3 with 2 BRIs and a home run for Springs (8-3). The Colts will face Douglas on Saturday with first place in the district on the line.
