Daily Recaps For Broward County Games On Tuesday, March 5th
South Broward survived McArthur 4-3 in nine innings to lead the action around the county Tuesday. Here’s a look at most of the games…
South Broward 4, McArthur 3 (9 innings) – Colin Tindall struck out nine in six innings, allowing two hits and no earned runs as the Bulldogs (6-1) won their forth district game to remain on top of the standings. Kenny Rasor struck out five in three innings of relief to get the win and is now 3-0. Matt Cohick went 3-for-5 with a triple and two runs.
Chaminade-Madonna 3, Miami Pace 3 – The Lions (0-6-2) can’t wait for Daylight Savings Time to begin this weekend as this was the second tie they had to settle for as the game ended because of darkness. Julian Pino had a hit and drove in two runs, Thomas Shomarii went 2-for-3 with a double, and Daniel Vitello had two walks and two runs. Adam Toombs struck out five and walked one.
Douglas 10, Taravella 0 – The Eagles (6-1) won their fifth in a row and remain tied for the top spot in District 8A-11 with Coral Glades at 4-0. The two meet Tuesday at Douglas. Josh Koebel went 3-for-3 for Douglas.
Flanagan 9, Coral Springs 1 – Chris Rodriguez struck out seven and allowed six hits in five innings for the Falcons (6-2), who won their fifth straight. Andres Visbal led the offense, going 3-for-3 with a home run, three runs and four RBIs.
Monarch 12, Boyd Anderson 0 – Nick Alonzo went 3-for-5 with three RBIs, a double and a triple to help the Knights to their third District 7A-15 win. Monarch is now tied with Northeast at 3-0 in the district. The two will settle things this week as they play each other twice, Thursday at Monarch and Friday at Northeast.
Westminster Academy 17, Jupiter Christian 5 – Tommy Dorfman pitched two innings, allowing no hits while walking none and striking out three as the Eagles (3-4-1) won their third in the past four games. Weston Clemente went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Daniel Donofrio went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Sean Farmer went 2-for-3 with a run for the Eagles (2-7).
West Broward 6, Pompano Beach 1 – Michael Schappell allowed two hits and one earned run in five innings pitched for the Bobcats (5-1), who are on a three-game winning streak heading into Friday’s game with Flanagan. Cody Newell went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs, and Devin Hadley went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Xavier Beltran went 1-for-2 with two RBIs, and Luigi Perez had two hits and a run.
American Heritage 7, Hallandale 0 – The Patriots won their sixth in a row to improve to 6-1 and 4-0 in the district. Danny Zardon went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, and Zack Collins went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs.
South Plantation 14, Piper 2 – Dustin Birchall went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base, and Ryan Duty went 2-for-4 with three RBIs to pace the Paladins (3-3), who improved to 2-3 in the district for fifth place.
St. Thomas 7, Nova 3 – Teddy Meissner went 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBIs for the Raiders as they improved to 5-3 after their fourth win in a row. They’re second in the district behind South Broward.
Sheridan Hills 4, American Prep 3 – D.P. Ward had a hit and stole six bases, and eric Morlan struck out six in five and one-third innings as the Sharks (2-6) won for the second time in their past three games.
University School 12, Coral Springs Charter 6 – Evan McKendry went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs as the Suns remained unbeaten in the district at 4-0 (4-1 overall).
Cypress Bay 14, Miramar 0 – The Lightning (4-1) struck for their third district win as Jeremy Tache and Josh Ulino combined on a no-hitter. Tommy Quintero homered, and Jacob Ehrlich went 2-for-2 with an RBI.
Northeast 14, Coconut Creek 1 – Mike Rendina allowed one hit and one earned run in three innings to help the Hurricanes (4-1) to their second win overall. Mike Grosfield went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs, and Nehymiah Nueman went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run.
