Douglas Tops Cypress Bay To Advance

Jesus Luzardo, Douglas’ ace, pitched a strong game Friday.
Derek Fritz went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs to power Douglas in a 7-0 win over Cypress Bay on Friday in a Class 8A regional quarterfinal.
Mike Greenberg’s solo home run put the Eagles on the board in the second before Fritz’s homer made it 3-0 going into the fourth where Douglas added four runs to give the Eagles a substantial lead. The Eagles finished with 10 hits.
Winning pitcher Jesus Luzardo out dueled Cypress Bay ace Jeremy Tache to improve to 7-3. It was Tache’s first loss in 10 decisions.
The win puts Douglas (19-4) in a regional semifinal at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Flanagan (18-5), which beat Coral Glades 4-3 to advance.
Douglas and Flanagan are familiar foes in the playoffs as well as in the regular season. Flanagan beat Douglas 12-4 in a regional semifinal in 2005. Flanagan also won 4-3 in 2008 and 6-1 last year in the quarterfinal round.
