Saturday was a beautiful day for baseball, and there were a handful of schools who took the field for action. With the skies calm and the sun shining, the ball seemed to be flying off bats everywhere in the county as Long Ball Saturday took full effect for hitters. Topping the list of players was Archbishop McCarthy’s Eddie Sliva, who went 3-for-3 with two solo home runs and a two-run bomb in their 10-0 win over Gibbons. Pine Crest’s Matt Rothenberg had a spectacular day himself, going 3-for-3 with two homers, and seven RBIs as Pine Crest dispatched Calvary Christian. Sending another ball flying over the fences was Brady Acton, who was 1-for-2 with three RBIs for Pine Crest. Brandon Laboy carried Coral Springs Charter to a 5-4 victory, as he left the yard once and went 3-for-3 on the day, adding a double and single in his other two at-bats.
