Highlights, Scores and Recaps for Tuesday, March 25th, 2014

Most of the attention has been focused on Spring Break tournaments this week, but some excitement Tuesday night came from a regular, non-district, non-tournament game as Pine Crest upset Westminster Academy 3-2 in eight innings to snap the Lions’ nine-game winning streak. The Lions, who are enjoying one of their best seasons since the Rich Hofman era of the early 2000s, had not lost since University School beat them 6-1 on Feb. 21. Griffin Conine, son of former major leaguer Jeff Conine, went 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs. Elsewhere Tuesday, Flanagan won in the Sarasota Classic behind the pitching of Kharlin Sued and Chris Rodriguez, and Max Boling powered Douglas with a three-hit, six-RBI performance as the Eagles beat Chaminade-Madonna. Danny Melgarejo struck out 11 in Pembroke Pines Charter’s 5-2 win over Montavallo, Alabama….
