Cardinal Gibbons snapped out of an early season funk to beat American Heritage 2-1 in a 5A-16 game Saturday to give the Chiefs their first win of the season. Karl Hirsch pitched a complete game and struck out six, and Colin Durkin had two hits and swiped two bags.

Somerset Academy won its first district game in 4A-14 and improved to 3-2 as it defeated Chaminade-Madonna 8-2 on the strength of a three-run home run by Mike Van Degna and a two-run shot by Juan Teixera.
