Calvary Christian earned its first win of the season Tuesday by holding off a late rally to beat 4A-14 foe Pine Crest 8-7. The Eagles allowed the Panthers to score five in the seventh inning but managed to hold on to win, putting Calvary in first place in the district. West Broward also won its first game in a district matchup as the Bobcats downed McArthur 12-2 in 8A-13 behind Michael Schappell’s pitching performance. He struck out five and allowed one hit in three innings. Highlands Christian was another team to pick up its first win while battling a district opponent. The Knights beat Coral Springs Christian 5-1 in 3A-14. Douglas used the long ball in its 11-5 win over Taravella in 8A-11.
