March Madness Shootout Round Up
An intriguing aspect of the March Madness Shootout presented by Galeo Spices is the scheduling for consolation match ups. Rather than place teams into a consolation bracket, HSBN has realigned teams to present more preferable match ups. On Monday teams eliminated from championship contention faced off in some meetings that have long been waiting to happen.
(3) Flanagan 4, (2) TERRA 3: Dylan O’Connell pitched a gem to lift the Falcons, as the southpaw struck out 10 in six innings of work.
Hunter Platts was 2-for-3 with two runs and Ricky Presno was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Flanagan.
“Our team was able to bounce back after the setback against Coral Gables,” Flanagan Manager Ray Evans said. “Our starting pitcher, Dylan O’Connell, came up with a great performance when we needed it most.”
(1) Archbishop McCarthy 4, (9) American 3: Several of the Mavericks sophomores stepped up to lead the way, starting with a home run from Alex Toral in the bottom of the first inning. Adan Fernandez added a clutch RBI and Daniel Federman went six gritty innings for McCarthy.
“It’s always a great win when you beat a good team in a close game,” Mavericks Manager Rich Bielski said. “It’s definitely what we needed after losing a nine-inning and then a 12-inning game. I’m very proud of our effort tonight.”
(13) Monsignor Pace 11, (10) Miami Brito 3: “It was nice to come out tonight and put together a solid win after a tough loss the other night,” Spartans Manager Tom Duffin said. “Hopefully we will be able to start to play more consistent baseball from here on out.”
