Highlights, Scores and Recaps for Wednesday, April 22nd, 2015
Tommy Romero pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts, allowing three hits while walking one as Coral Springs Charter beat North Broward Prep 4-1 in a 4A-14 quarterfinal. The Panthers move on to a semifinal against top-seeded Calvary Christian at 7 tonight.
In the other 4A-14 quarterfinal, Derek Cartaya went 3-for-4 with four RBIs as Somerset beat Chaminade-Madonna 11-4. The Panthers will take on Pine Crest in a semifinal at 4 p.m. today.
Daniel Silva pitched a complete game, allowing four hits and one earned run as Fort Lauderdale topped Northeast 4-2 in 7A-14. Hassan Westbrook went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Flying L’s, who will face Monarch in tonight’s championship. The Knights advanced with a forfeit win over Ely.
Flanagan continued its dominance in 8A-13, muscling its way past Everglades 11-0 to set up tonight’s championship with West Broward.
Max Lazar tossed a complete game five-hitter to lead Coral Springs to a 7-3 win over Deerfield Beach in an 8A-11 quarterfinal. Darrin Brown went 2-for-4 with two runs, a RBI and a home run for the Colts, who face top-seeded Douglas in a semifinal at 1 p.m. today. The winner moves on to play Taravella in Friday’s championship. Taravella beat Coral Glades 9-6 in an 8A-11 semifinal.
Nick Marchese pitched a complete game, striking out eight and also helping his cause at the plate by going 3-for-3 with four RBIs as St. Thomas beat Hollywood Hills 12-0 in 7A-15. Anthony Mulrine went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs, and Gary Mattis homered, scored three times, drove in two runs and swiped three bases for the Raiders, who face their arch rivals, Nova, in tonight’s championship. Jawuan Harris went 2-for-3 with two runs and three stolen bases.
In the other 7A-15 semifinal, Nova downed Plantation 5-2 on the strength of James Spatafora’s three-run home run. Vince Coletti earned the win and also drove in a run. Austin Davis doubled in a run.
