North Broward Tops Calvary For First Win
North Broward Prep rode a three-run third inning to get past former district foe Calvary Christian 7-2 on Tuesday for its first win this season.
After a scoreless first and second innings, Andres Sierra led off the top of the third with a double and scored on Stender Von Oehsen’s single to center field for North Broward (1-2). Three batters later, Muhammed Eid reached on a fielder’s choice that allowed Von Oehsen to score. Aaron Antonini came home when Anthony Masiello was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Max Guzman homered to right to lead off the bottom of the fourth for Calvary (2-2) to narrow the margin to 3-1. Christian Scott scored on Guzman’s double in the bottom of the sixth.
North Broward didn’t let up as it added a two-run shot by Dillon Belle to extend the lead in the top of the fifth. The homer also scored Gregory Veliz. Evan McKendry later singled in Eid to make it 6-1 and build a solid cushion. North Broward scored its final run in the top of the seventh as McKendry singled in Eid.
Veliz earned the win for North Broward, pitching a complete game, giving up five hits while striking out seven and walking one.
The Eagles will look for their second win of the season and first in the district when they host undefeated Pine Crest (3-0) at 7 p.m. Saturday at FAU Stadium. The Panthers beat the Eagles 2-1 last Saturday.
Calvary will head to Central Florida to take on Hagerty in Oviedo at 7 p.m. Friday before competing against Trinity Prep at 1 p.m. Saturday.
