Sagemont Rallies Past St. Andrew’s For First Win
Sagemont used a five-run fourth inning to erase a two-run deficit en route to an 8-5 win over St. Andrew’s on Tuesday for its first victory of the season.
With the Lions down 3-1, Albert Hernandez led off the top of the fourth with a walk and advanced to third on Stefan Revelo’s flyout to right field. Pedro Martinez doubled home Hernadez in the next at-bat. An error allowed Alejandro Martin to reach base and Martinez to score. Alexis Castillo and Jonathan Vega walked to load the bases for Sammy Infante, who reached on an error that allowed Martin and Castillo to score. M.C. Sagaro singled in Vega to make it 6-3.
St. Andrew’s (2-1) took an early lead by coming up with three runs in the first. Matt Glenn singled to center field to get things cooking. Two batters later, Nick Chiapetta singled to put runners on first and second. After a strikeout, Jordan Spitzberg reached on an error to load the bases. Scott Gellman smacked a double to right field to clear the bases. Glenn finished 3-for-4 with two runs.
Sagemont (1-2) narrowed the score to 3-1 in the second as a fly ball by Adrian Parker brought home Revelo. The Lions made it 7-3 in the top of the fifth when Parker grounded out to allow Revelo to score. The Scots came back in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single by Jason Otis that scored Glenn.
Sagemont didn’t let up, capitalizing on an error that scored Vega in the top of the sixth.
Down to its final outs, the Scots mounted a rally in the seventh. Grant Hodgeman led off with a single before Glenn doubled. After a lineout and a strikeout, a passed ball allowed Hodgeman to score before a ground out ended the game.
