South Broward Beats Fort Lauderdale 1-0 In Pitchers Duel
South Broward had a rough start to the season on Monday, going down to the Piper Bengals. On Thursday night, Yjordan Maldonado made sure that the history did not repeat on the Bulldogs.
The junior had one of the better pitching performances of the young season, throwing a complete game, two-hit shutout, leading the Bulldogs to a 1-0 win over Fort Lauderdale.
“Both pitchers threw a great game, but Yjordan was outstanding tonight,” said South Broward Manager Charlie Cardinale. “This was a fun game to be a part of.”
While Maldonado was working his magic for South Broward, Michael Reiskind was equally impressive. Reiskind threw a complete game, allowing four hits and striking out two.
The lone run in the game came in the fifth. Antonio Schembari worked a one-out walk, and advanced to third on a Steven Fondeur base hit. After Fondeur stole second, Miguel Gonzalez lifted a ball deep enough to score Schembari.
Even with the loss, the Flying L’s had a bright spot at the top of the order, as Jonathan Grant had the only two hits of the game for Fort Lauderdale.
Fort Lauderdale will not get much rest, as they are back at it again on Friday when they travel to face Northeast.
South Broward has a long weekend to prepare for what should be an exciting atmosphere when the Bulldogs take on McArthur at Marlins Park next Wednesday.
