Big Sixth Inning Lifts North Broward Past Windermere Prep
North Broward Prep completed a three-game sweep of its road trip to Orlando this week by rallying late to defeat host Windermere Prep 11-7 on Thursday afternoon. The Eagles (7-3) broke a tie game with four runs in the top of the sixth to earn the victory, after previously beating Montverde Academy and Trinity Prep the past two days. After a loss to Douglas snapped the Eagles four-game win streak last week they have since embarked on a new streak in winning their third straight.
Aaron Antonini got the rally going with his third hit of the day on a leadoff double to right field in the sixth. CJ Roth followed with a single and Muhammed Eid capped off his monster afternoon with his fifth hit of the day, an RBI single to left that gave Eid his second RBI to go along with his 5-for-5 performance. Dillon Belle next came through with an RBI double to deep right, and Dylan Ogazaly got in on the action with a two-RBI single that gave North Broward a large cushion.
The Eagles piled up 17 hits overall, and every starter collected at least one.
“It was a good positive result at the plate up here,” North Broward manager Brian Campbell said. “We grinded the whole game and we are starting to come together offensively now. I have been waiting for us to hit and hopefully the trip will help us turn the corner offensively. We play good defense and pitch real well so this is a step in the right direction for us. There is a still a long way to go in the season and it has been steady growth and improvement for us.”
Roth came on the mound to close out the final two frames. Following a 1-2-3 sixth the reliever was able to overcome Rylan Thomas’ third hit of the day and a single from Alex Crotty by getting a 9-3-6 double play that ended the contest.
The Eagles got their bats going early with a three-run first against tough Lakers starter Austin Bergner. After the first three hitters singled to load the bases, Belle drew a walk to plate the first run of the afternoon, Anthony Masiello supplied a sac-fly RBI and Nick Bohrer plated another on a fielder’s choice RBI groundout.
“Bergner was good but we were able to get to them early, and we scored in just about every inning,” Campbell said.
The Lakers (6-6) also had a strong day at the plate, collecting 11 hits that included home runs from Bergner, Rylan Thomas and Julio Montes. Thomas got Windermere on the board with a solo shot in the bottom of the first, Bergner clubbed a two-run homer to tie things up in the third and Montes connected for a longball that jump-started a four-run fifth inning that again evened things up at 7-7.
Thomas led Windermere by going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, while Montes and Bergner both had two hits each.
