Highlands Christian downs Jupiter Christian
The Highlands Christian Knights gained some ground in the race for the top seed in 3A-7, downing the Jupiter Christian Eagles by a score of 4-2 on Thursday night. Both teams now hold a 1-1 record within the district and trail the John Carroll Rams by just half a game.
Clayton Baker drove in Ryne Guida with a double in the top of the second inning to open the scoring for the visiting Knights. The Eagles’ Reed Burke returned the favor in the bottom half with an RBI groundout, leading to a 1-1 stalemate.
From there, Highlands took control. The Knights broke the tie on a wild pitch in the third frame. Another RBI double, this one by Jose Sosa, then gave them a 3-1 lead that they would not relinquish. They tacked on an insurance run in the fifth.
Jupiter Christian capped off the scoring thanks to an RBI double by Nik Constantakos in the sixth.
Both Sosa and Constantakos went 3-for-3 for their respective teams. Swindly Lint also starred for Highlands, recording two hits in four at-bats. He scored after each of those hits and also swiped a bag.
Kyle Bombadier earned the win for the Knights, scattering seven hits through five innings.
The loss brings a five-game winning streak to a screeching halt for the Eagles but they still boast a 6-2 overall record. The 3-2 Knights, on the other hand, have now won two straight and will look to keep a streak of their own going when they face off against Coral Spring Charter next week.
