American Heritage Scores Late To Take Down Doral
American Heritage rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh to defeat Doral Academy 3-2 on Tuesday in a non-district matchup. The win was the fifth in a row for the Patriots (14-4) after a mid-season 1-4 stretch.
After a groundout to start the seventh, Kyle Carter walked before Alfonso Guillen hit a line-drive single to center. Tristan Casas then singled to left to score Carter for the tying run. Travis Holt followed with another single to left to score Guillen for the go-ahead run. Guillen went 2-for-3 with a run and Holt was 2-for-4.
Casas pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh with three strikeouts to seal the win for the Patriots.
Doral Academy scored with two outs in the bottom of the first. Brian Perez singled to left and went to second on a wild pitch during Christopher Liriano’s at-bat. Liriano singled to left as well, scoring Perez. The Firebirds (14-8) added another run the next inning on Yasel Fabra’s homer with one out.
Neither team mustered more than one baserunner through the bottom of the fifth.
Heritage broke through in the sixth, loading the bases with no outs. Casas was hit by a pitch, Holt doubled to center field and Gary Mattis walked. Casas scored when Santiago Garavito hit into a double play.
Jonathan Lopez pitched five strong innings for Doral, allowing three hits. Anthony Boix pitched the sixth and got the win for Heritage.
