Highlights, Scores and Recaps for Thursday, April 21st, 2016

Christian Scott struck out 12, walked none and pitched a four-hitter to lead Calvary Christian to a 5-1 win over Chaminade-Madonna in a 4A-7 semifinal. Max Guzman went 1-for-1 with a home run, two RBIS, three walks and two runs for the Eagles, who beat the Lions for the third time this season and will face SLAM in tonight’s championship.

After several years of district playoff frustration, the Pompano Beach Tornadoes spun past Somerset 12-5 in the 5A-12 title game. Chase Costello spotted the Panthers four runs in the top of the first and then settled down to allow one run the rest of the way while he got support from a six-run top of the second. Nick Marcantonio went 4-for-5 with a double, run and RBI, and Bobby Aseere went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Austin Carney added two hits, including a double, drove in three and scored.

Kyle Benson struck out seven in four innings to key St. Thomas’ 8-2 win over Piper in the 8A-14 championship. Anthony Mulrine went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, and Caneron Krzeminski (two home runs, three RBIs) and Earl Semper (two RBIs) each had two hits.

Colbie O’Donnell pitched a two-hitter, and Gabe Paulson went 2-for-3 with two doubles and four RBIs as Nova blanked Cooper City 10-0 for the 8A-15 title.
