North Broward Edges Pompano In 5A-14 Battle
North Broward Prep snapped a six-game losing streak and earned a key win in 5A-14, defeating Pompano Beach 5-4 on Tuesday. The Eagles (12-7) are in second place in the district at 6-3, while the Tornadoes (13-7) are tied for third with Pine Crest at 5-5.
With the score tied at four, North Broward came up with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth. Muhammed Eid sent a 1-1 offering over the left-field fence to put North Broward up. Eid finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.
North Broward came out fired up from the start by loading the bases with two outs in the first. It built a four-run lead with a pair of two-run innings in the second and third. Aaron Antonini homered with two outs in the bottom of the second to also score Andres Sierra, who got on with a walk.
Dillon Belle walked to lead off the third. After Eid struck out, Evan McKendry was hit by a pitch and then Belle was put out on a fielder’s choice that allowed Nick Bohrer to reach base. Dylan Ogozaly’s line-drive double plated McKendry and Bohrer.
Pompano rallied for four runs to tie it in the top of the fourth. The Tornadoes loaded the bases without the benefit of a hit as Vinnie Costello got on with an error, Austin Carney walked and Jeremy Davis reached on a fielder’s choice. Chase Costello’s line-drive single to center scored Vinnie Costello. Max Stein’s base hit scored Carney, and Chase Costello came home when Bobby Aseere grounded out to second. A strikeout stopped the bleeding.
North Broward threatened in the top of the fourth with two men on, but a groundout and flyout quashed the attempt.
