Archbishop McCarthy rallied from a short-lived, one-run deficit to take the lead for good in the second inning en route to an 8-1 win over Rockledge in a 6A regional final. Yordani Carmona earned the win for the Mavericks (27-2), who advance to the state final four for the sixth time in the past eight years, seeking back-to-back state titles and their sixth overall. The Mavericks, who put the game away with six runs over the last three innings, will take on North Marion in a state semifinal at 1 p.m. May 18th.
Douglas beat Jupiter 2-1 to advance to the state semifinals for the first time in school history. Brandon Kaminer got the win for the Eagles, who grabbed a run in the top of the sixth on a home run by Colton Welker to break a 1-1 tie. The Eagles (25-2) had lost in the regionals finals in four previous tries, including three times to Park Vista, which beat the Eagles for the regional crown in 2009, 2014 and 2015. Douglas also lost in a regional final in 1997, falling to Coral Park. The Eagles will face West Orange (27-2) in a state semifinal at 10 a.m. May 20th.
Despite a strong effort from starter Trevor Kniskern, Pompano Beach lost 9-3 to Monsignor Pace in its first regional final in school history.
