Highlands Christian Reaches 3A Regional Finals
The Highlands Christian Knights crept one step closer to a return to the state Final Four, thanks to a 3-0 shutout over Sagemont in Wednesday afternoon’s 3A regional semifinal. Highlands (10-13) will travel to square off against Archbishop Carroll next Tuesday with a state berth on the line, after the Bulldogs defeated John Carroll on the other side of the 3A Region 4 bracket.
The Knights last won a regional championship in 2010, but have five regional titles in all.
Senior Kyle Bombardier delivered his best start of the season to lead Highlands to victory. The right-hander went five scoreless innings while allowing four hits and three walks. Nick Anello earned the save with two scoreless relief innings that sealed the win.
Highlands scored all of its runs in the fifth. Jisjar Clotida continued to swing a hot bat to lead the way, providing an RBI double as part of a 2-for-3 performance. Daryl Carney also had an RBI double and also scored, and Joe Martin and Daniel Malay also crossed the plate for the Knights.
Sagemont (10-12) struggled to string together any offense, as the Lions managed just four hits on the night. Dylan Fineberg, Jonathan Vega, Alex Gonzalez and Keshav Babu all had base hits for Sagemont.
