Wachs Homers, Querales Blanks Taravella In Regional Quarterfinals
Jason Wachs drove in four runs with a homer and a triple while JP Querales fired a complete-game shutout in West Broward’s 10-0 win over visiting Taravella in a region quarterfinals playoff game on Tuesday.
Wachs broke up a scoreless battle in the fourth inning on a triple that scored Adran Bermudez, who opened the inning with a single and scored three times in the game. Wachs scored on a single by Alejandro Sardinas, who stole second and scored on an error.
The Bobcats (22-5-1), ranked #4 in Broward, extended their 3-0 lead with three more runs in the fifth. Ethan Lindor, who led the Bobcats with three of their nine hits (2 RBIs, 2 runs), belted a solo home run and Ivan Sabater delivered a two-out, two-run single that plated both Wachs and Michael Manocchio.
Wachs (2-3, 4 RBIs, 3 runs) ended the game in the bottom of the sixth inning with a three-run homer after Lindor’s RBI-single that drove in Reggie Rodriguez.
It was more than enough offensive firepower for Querales, who scattered six hits and struck out three over six innings. He did not walk a batter, throwing 52 strikes over his 69-pitch outing.
J.C. Martinez led Travella with two hits and a stolen base. E.J. Burns, Anthony Quigley, Jake Miller, and Peyton Morgan added one hit apiece for the Trojans (15-12).
